Why they remake spiderman
And on that note…. Chances are, a certain MCU character with the ability to bend time and space might have something to do with it. Internet buzz has also thrown up the suggestion that with the potential for all sorts of antagonists cropping up from different Spider-Man universes, Doctor Octopus could be teed up to form the Sinister Six, a six-strong group of supervillains he heads in most of the comic source material.
MJ, who was conceived as an original character in Spider-Man: Homecoming and whose real name is Michelle Jones, has the same initials as Mary Jane in tribute to the character. Emma Stone is reportedly currently in negotiations to return to the franchise as Gwen Stacy, which is particularly interesting given the character's death at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
More than half a century ago, Spider-Man became the original everyman. Write to Eliana Dockterman at eliana. If we're being honest, we'd be surprised if Maguire and Garfield weren't in the movie, but perhaps it's all been one big misdirect worthy of Mysterio. Away from the multiverse shenanigans, the trailer confirmed that Marisa Tomei is also back as Aunt May. Could we see her blossoming romance with Happy Hogan Jon Favreau continue after he appeared in the trailer as well?
We also wouldn't be surprised to see Jake Gyllenhaal reprise his role as Mysterio. He appeared to be fatally wounded at the end of Far From Home , but given his trickster ways, we can't guarantee that he actually is dead. He's confirmed that he signed a contract to do two sequels. There were rumours that Daredevil could make an appearance in the third movie, but if the character is involved, then Charlie Cox has ruled out reprising his role from the Netflix series. It certainly seems as though Matt Murdock is involved somewhere as there was a casting call for courtroom extras , and Spider-Man fans think Matt is in the first trailer when Peter is being interrogated.
It could honestly be anyone though. The news that the MCU and Sony's Spider-Man universes are potentially combining in the third movie points towards the potential for Tom Hardy's Venom appearing in the third movie.
It's hard to imagine Hardy's take on Venom fitting in with the tone of the MCU, but if the Sinister Six are going to make their bow, Venom could well be a part of the band of villains causing trouble for Spidey — after all, Venom: Let There Be Carnage 's credits scene goes a long way towards cementing a cross over. Hardy is certainly up for it and Sony boss Sanford Panitch said in May that there "is a plan" for a crossover of the Spider-Man and Venom worlds , teasing that "even more will be revealed" when No Way Home comes out.
But it was a lot of fun to do, and we love Tom Hardy Talking of villains, Michael Mando has teased a potential return as Scorpion saying there's "always a chance". Dane DeHaan, who played Harry Osborn, has categorically denied any involvement in the threequel , but Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat actress Felicity Jones would love to return even though she's not been rumoured to, yet. One person who won't be making a comeback for the multiverse shenanigans is Joe Manganiello, who played Flash Thompson in the original Spider-Man trilogy and has ruled out a cameo appearance :.
So, a little cameo as Flash Thompson? I don't know, I'd rather do something more substantive. After fans had their fun guessing the title as things like Home Run and Work From Home , the cast also got in on the action. As with Homecoming and Far From Home , there's no immediate connection to the comic books, but it does fit with the cliffhanger at the end of the second movie that saw Peter Parker's identity revealed to the world.
Unsurprisingly, this news has had a big impact on Peter's life and until it gets sorted out, he probably can't return home safely, so it will feel as though there is "no way home" for him right now. Could "no way home" actually be a dark hint at the future of Holland's web-slinger in the MCU though? With the first trailer, we also got a brief official synopsis for the movie which doesn't really explain anything not seen in the trailer:.
Holland has been promising that No Way Home is "absolutely insane" and based on the trailer and casting so far, that certainly seems accurate. We're in for some huge-scale multiverse action, the likes of which we haven't seen in a Spider-Man movie. Holland received the final script shortly after he arrived on set and shared his excitement with fans, although he did promise not to spoil anything : "I'm not going to tell you anything about it because I've learned my lesson.
He added in February that they're "figuring it out as we go on this one" which isn't unusual for a blockbuster, but could also point to them waiting for various cameos to be confirmed. I mean I've loved all of them, but I've never had as much fun as I have on this one. Well, that's if they believe "controversial news website" TheDailyBugle. And what's more, Spidey is being blamed for Mysterio's destruction, so he is in a bit of a sticky situation.
The situation is potentially set for the third movie to adapt the controversial comics storyline One More Day , which saw Peter sacrifice his marriage to Mary Jane in order to save the life of Aunt May.
It certainly seems that there will be elements of that in the movie as the trailer showed Doctor Strange attempting a spell that'd make people forget Peter is Spider-Man.
